According to HMRC almost any task that can be resolved via telephone can also be done via their webchat service. The Self Assessment webchat service is open from 8.00am to 7.30pm from Monday to Friday and 8.00am to 4pm on Saturday.
The webchat can be accessed by clicking ask HMRC online and asking the digital assistant for help. The digital assistant will try to deal with your query, if it can’t help then you can ask to speak to an adviser in the chat box. You may have to wait in queue for an advisor, or if there are none available you may have to keep trying.
If you encounter problems using HMRC’s online services, you can contact the HMRC online services helpdesk for help.
They will be able to assist you if you have problems submitting your tax return online as well as if you have lost your online service login details. If you have a disability or health condition that makes it difficult to use the HMRC online services, you can contact the online services helpdesk for support.
